Where to stay when visiting long distance
« on: May 08, 2014, 01:02:26 pm »
It is not unusual for visitors to TDCJ inmates to travel more than 300 miles from their home to the prison. This normally means the visitor can request Special Visits, on both days of the weekend. Special visits are at the discretion of the individual Warden, and can be either:

* 2 hours Saturday and 2 hours Sunday

* 4 hours on either a Saturday or Sunday

* 4 hours on a Saturday and 4 hours on a Sunday

When travelling a long distance to visit, you may need to spend the night in a nearby hotel or hospitality house. If you know of any good places to stay, please post the details below (including the prisons that are near by).
There and back again....

For Tennessee Colony prisons (Coffield, Michael, Beto, Gurney and Powledge):

Super 8
2300 West Oak Street, Hwy 79/84 and Loop 256, Palestine, TX 75801
http://www.super8.com/hotels/texas/palestine/super-8-palestine/hotel-overview
Cheap rooms, clean, though a little noisy. Close to Jack-In-The-Box and Denny's (walking distance), and 5 minutes drive from Walmart, Sonic, Pizza Hut, Appleby's, Subway etc on Loop 256.

La Quinta
3000 Texas 256 Loop, Palestine, TX 75801

A little more expensive than Super 8, but with a complementary hot breakfast and a fitness centre.
There and back again....

Livingston (for Polunsky) has a good selection of hotels. I've stayed at a couple of them.

Super 8 : Cheap, slightly dingy but always clean. Fridge and microwave in the rooms and free WiFi. Smoking and non-smoking rooms. Seems to be a favorite for truck drivers who take up the entire front parking lot and transient workers who like to be loud at night and in the morning when they wake up, so I don't recommend it if you need peace and quiet, and the doors all open to the outside so there's no sound barrier between you and the road.

Best Western : When I find a good hotel at a spot I go to often I don't usually stray from it so this  hotel is the reason I've never stayed anywhere else after my foray to the Super 8 once. I love this hotel. You'll pay a little bit more, but it's super quiet and the reception desk is always helpful and friendly. Fridge and microwave, free WiFi, smoking and non-smoking rooms, and a pool.

I really hope my Cowboy is sentenced and moved before my visit in October, where he is now, in a detention centre, visit are only 30 minutes and behind glass, no exeptions!!  :'( I really hope he's moved so we can have a contact visit and a special "long" visit over the weekend as I have to travel so far, I live in the uk!
It's hard to wait for something
that might not happen......
But it's even harder to give up
when it's everything you want!

I booked myself into Best Western in Palestine for my visit to Beto in July.
I'll keep you posted how that works out. Looks great in the pics, but it remains to be seen how it is to stay there.
