Problems at visit?
« on: June 05, 2014, 11:14:24 am »
Each TDCJ unit has a designated Family Liaison Officer on duty during the weekends (for CID units) and during visitation days for Death Row. It is the Family Liaison Officer's responsibility to deal with any issues that arrise immediately before, during or after a visit with a TDCJ inmate, from the visitor's perspective.

The Family Liaison Officer may be the duty Warden (a Major or similar rank), or may be an officer of a lower rank.

You may ask to speak to the Family Liaison Officer at any time. If you wish to speak to them in private, you should ask to do so. Remember that they have a job to do, and may be constrained by security procedures or requirments in what they can tell you or do for you.

Things to remember:
* Know, understand, and follow the rules
* Be polite, do not raise your voice or adopt an aggressive manner
* Make sure you know the name and rank of the Family Liaison Officer
* If you do not agree with them, and feel you wish to take the matter further, ask to speak to the duty Warden (if that is not the Family Liaison Officer) or call the Warden's office the following working day.

How do you know the name and rank of the Family Liason Officer?
Do you mean if you have a concern you need to know, or in general that you should know who they are on each particular day that you visit?

You may never need to speak to a Family Liaison Officer, but it's useful to know who it is, just in case. In 10 years, I've only spoken to one once.

At Coffield, the name and rank of the duty Family Liaison Officer is posted on the wall of the registration picket when you enter. If you don't see a notice, just ask the officers at registration who the duty Family Liaison Officer is for that weekend when you get there.

All TDCJ officers wear name badges.
