TDCJ inmate healthcare fee

(1/1)

sunrayswench:
Since September 2011, TDCJ inmates requiring medical attention that is not for an on-going issue have been charged a fee of $100 after the first instance of requiring medical attention, which covers them for one year on a rolling basis. This means that if the inmate requests medical care on 7 September 2014, and pay the $100 fee, they will not have to pay again until 7 September 2015 or until such time as they require further medical care not covered in the exclusions below.

The fee is NOT charged for the following circumstances:

* An emergancy situation or for a condition that is or quickly becomes life-threatening
* Treatments or services that are recommended by medical staff within TDCJ
* Treatment for chronic conditions such as asthma, diabites, and for communicable diseases
* Screening and health services that are part of the intake process or that TDCJ are compelled to undertake to comply with state or federal laws
* Prenatal care
If an inmate does not have $100 in their account, then the inmate will not be denied medical care. TDCJ will take 50% of any future deposit to the inmates account until the fee is completely paid.
