Post by: sunrayswench on April 28, 2014, 11:48:57 am
The current TDCJ rules for offender visitation is here (pdf - in English): http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/documents/cid/Offender_Rules_and_Regulations_for_Visitation_English.pdf (http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/documents/cid/Offender_Rules_and_Regulations_for_Visitation_English.pdf)

And in Spanish (pdf): http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/documents/cid/Offender_Rules_and_Regulations_for_Visitation_Spanish.pdf (http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/documents/cid/Offender_Rules_and_Regulations_for_Visitation_Spanish.pdf)

General information on visiting a TDCJ unit is here: http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/visitation/index.html (http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/visitation/index.html)

Visiting times for each TDCJ unit (with links through to each unit information page on the TDCJ website) are here: http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/visitation/unit_visitation_schedule.html (http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/visitation/unit_visitation_schedule.html)

Photographs may be purchased at visitation if the Unit is offering the service that weekend. Some only have photographs on the first weekend of each month. Some have photographs more often, and many have photographs for a whole month in September or October each year. The cost of each photograph is $3. You will have to pay when you arrive at the registration desk. Some units require you to pay before you enter the perimeter fence and you may need paper money to do so. Others take the payment within the perimeter fence and you will have to pay in coins. The money is donated to local charities. There may be a limit to the number of photographs that you can purchase for a single visit day, usually 2 photographs is the limit.

You will be notified during your visit when it is your turn to have the photographs taken. The photographs may be brought to you during the visit once they have been printed, or you may need to collect them from the registration desk when you collect your ID and keys after your visit.

As of 22 February 2015, the rules relating to the distance a visitor must live away from the unit to qualify for an Extended Visit have been changed:

“Extended Visit”
may be permitted at the discretion of the warden or designee for individuals traveling in excess of 250 miles one-way for visitation, if space allows. This may be for up to four hours in length.
