Sending books and magazine or newspaper subscriptions
« on: May 08, 2014, 12:49:27 pm »
Books and magazines or newspapers can only be sent to TDCJ inmates from approved vendors - you cannot send them directly yourself.

TDCJ accepts books sent via Amazon.com. Used books that are of good quality and are sent by a company (not an individual) are usually also acceptable.

You can also order books and magazines from the Texas Prison Bookstore: http://www.texasprisonbookstore.com/

Do you know if The book depository" is an approved vendor?

I've not tried using them, but as they are an international company I would expect TDCJ to treat them the same as Amazon etc.

I would like to sent this diary to my PP. Do you think it will be approved by the mailroom?

I think it's a great idea, but as it contains blank pages, the mailroom might decide it is a journal or stationary, and deny it. Those are only supposed to be bought through eComm now.

Haha nothing is simple in Texas. Do you think I can sent an email or call them to ask if it's okay or if it's going to be denied?

They don't do emails but you can call the prison and ask to speak to the Mailroom Supervisor :)

Okay ... So how can I explain how the book is with proper English words? It's a diary like with a hard cover?

Yes, just ask them if it is OK to send an inmate a hard-cover 5 years diary. They should understand what you mean. You could also give them to dimensions, so for example 6 inches by 4 inches by 2 inches thick.

Thank you so much! I really want this to work. I have the idea for getting the same diary and at some point find a way to "exchange" what we wrote or something like this.
